Mountaineer
sends emails from Everest Sydney: A mountaineer from Australia has shown that it's possible to remain connected even at the top of a mountain peak. Rex Pemberton (22), the youngest Australian to climb the tallest mountain on every continent, dispatched email, photos and videos from the mountains, and maintained a diary that was sent to his newsletter subscribers. He carried along with him satellite phone and notebook computer in tow. His high-tech gadgetry included a camcorder, still camera and Toughbook notebook. The Toughbook was purpose-built to withstand the minus 50 degree temperatures, falls and vibrations.
"In the extreme conditions of mountaineering, I needed equipment that
could stand up to extraordinarily harsh punishment, such as huge temperature
extremes, vibration from transportation through the mountains, as well
as destructive elements such as snow, dust and condensation," the Sydney
Morning Herald quoted him as saying. Video footage shot by Pemberton will
be used in his upcoming "Seven Summits" documentary. Pemberton started
climbing as a teen and now has over 40 mountain ascents under his belt,
said the report. |
