Japanese girl weds Indian in Varanasi

Varanasi: Raja Tripathi and Ming Chiko, an Indian groom and his Japanese bride, have renewed their marital vows according to Indian customs. The wedding took place here yesterday. The duo went through a traditional Japanese wedding a year ago, and currently live in Tokyo. "We have already had a ceremony abroad. This ceremony is just to conduct our wedding according to Indian customs. We took leave from our respective jobs to come and get married here. Right now, we have not thought about coming back for good, but as of now we have to go back to Japan for a few years to continue our job," said Tripathi, who works as a security guard in Tokyo. Chiko's family of joined her for the ceremony. "I love Indian traditions," said Chiko, looking resplendent in a red wedding sari. Indian weddings are full of rituals and elaborate customs. The groom wears a shiny tiara to ward off evil and money garlands for prosperity, usually given to him by his sisters. The bride wears a red dot or "bindi" on her forehead, the symbol of a married woman. She also wears bangles to protect the groom from danger. Indians believe marriage or "Vivah" is a union of two souls where the bride and the groom not only accept each other as partners for life but also bond with their families.
