At a Cabinet meeting here, the government gave its nod to undertake legislation to alter the name of the State of "Uttaranchal" to "Uttarakhand" under Article 3 of the Constitution of India. A Bill, namely, the Uttaranchal (Alternation of Name) Bill, 2006 will be submitted to President APJ Abdul Kalam for referring it to the State Legislature of Uttaranchal for expressing its views.
