RS passes Wildlife Protection (Amendment) Bill New
Delhi: The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday passed the Wildlife Protection (Amendment)
Bill, 2005, which will facilitate the implementation of the Tiger Task
Force recommendations. The amendments will help to combat wildlife crimes
effectively by constituting the Tiger and Other Endangered Species Crime
Control Bureau. The legislation will also allow the Centre to pull up
the erring states. Amidst noisy scenes, the bill was passed by a voice
vote while the BJP members trooped into the well of the House, chanting
'Vande Mataram'. The BJP was not opposed to the Wildlife Protection Amendment
Bill but were demanding respect for the national song and that the singing
of "Vande Mataram" should be mandatory and not voluntary. The Bill was
passed with 27 amendments, including three to four amendments proposed
by the Left. Certain amendments were introduced keeping the tribal interests
in mind.
