When foreigners celebrate Janmashtami in Kullu Kullu:
Foreign tourists joined millions of Hindus across the country in celebrating
Janmashtami, the day of Lord Krishna's birth, on Wednesday. In Kullu,
Himachal Pradesh, a large number of foreign tourists participated in the
Janamashtami festivities. "The festivals celebrated here are quite different
from those being celebrated in other parts of the world. Everything is
based on the bliss of Guru or God", said Jill Ronsely, a Canadian tourist.
"Lord Krishna is an embodiment of love, peace, knowledge, liberation and
faith. It feels great while performing the rituals related to the festival,"
said Jayashree, another tourist Krishna's birthday is celebrated eight
days after Raksha Bandhan in the month of Sravana and celebrations are
spread over two days. The first day is called Krishan ashtami or Gokul
ashtami. The second day is known as Kaal ashtami or more popularly Janam
ashtami. Krishna is perceived as an incarnation of Vishnu, who is regarded
as the highest avatar or incarnation. It is believed that all other deities
are manifestations of Him.
