Fall in covid cases: Cinemas allowed to open to full capacity
Digital booking of tickets will be encouraged, show timings will be staggered and physical distancing maintained. The contact numbers of the ticket-holders should be taken at the time of booking.

NEW DELHI, Jan 31: The Centre has allowed all cinemas to open to full capacity throughout the country from Monday, except in the containment zones as identified by the respective State Governments. The guidelines said the cinema halls and theatres across the country can function with 100% seating capacity but with adequate safeguards. The decision follows the progressive decline in covid cases throughout the country.

Show timings will be staggered and physical distancing will be maintained in common areas, according to the SOPs announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Sunday.

The SOP said digital booking of tickets should be encouraged and contact number of the ticket-holder should be taken at the time of booking to facilitate contact tracing. Only the asymptomatic persons should be allowed inside any show.

It said, face masks should be worn and one must follow "strict practice of covering one’s mouth and nose while coughing/sneezing with a tissue/handkerchief/flexed elbow and disposing of used tissues properly. Self-monitoring of health by all and reporting any illness at the earliest to state and district helpline.”

The SOP also wants air-conditioning inside the cinema halls in the range of 24-30 degree Celsius. “Relative humidity should be in the range of 40-70%. Re-circulation of air to be avoided to the extent possible and intake of fresh air should be as much as possible.”

Thermal screening of visitors/staff will be conducted at the entry points. Entry and exit will be controlled so as to maintain requisite physical distance and avoid crowding.

The guidelines said, “Regular cleaning and disinfection of the box office, food and beverage areas, employees and staff lockers, toilets, public areas, and back office areas shall be ensured. Measures for the safety of sanitisation staff such as adequate provisions for rational use of gloves, boots, masks, PPE, etc. shall be undertaken.”
