Man arrested at Baba Ramdev's camp

Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh): Himachal Pradesh Police today claimed that they have detained a man with suspicious activities at an ongoing camp of Baba Ramdev at Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district. Hamirpur's Assistant Superintendent of Police Yashbir Pathania said they arrested the man from a rest house where the Swami was camping during his seven-day visit to the State. According to police, the arrested person admitted during interrogation that a militant had engaged him to kill Swami Ramdev. The detained man travelled in the same helicopter in which Ramdev flew along with the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Vir Bhadra Singh, from Chandigarh. "The question arises that how could the man breach the security and it was all because there was a confusion. The state security personnel thought he was with us and we thought he was with them," said Swami Ramdev. Chief Minister Singh said the matter would be investigated. "The Intelligence Bureau will investigate the matter to find out the motive behind his coming along with us, whether he was sent by somebody or he came on his own, all these will be investigated," said Singh.

Meanwhile, following the incident, the security of Ramdev has been tightened. Baba Ramdev also known as Swami Ramdev, is a rage in many parts of the country for, what he claims, curing illnesses through yoga, breathing exercises and traditional medicines. He has a large following amongst young and old who believe he has amalgamated spirituality, yoga and Ayurveda, the Indian system of medicine. His yoga demonstrations and talks are telecast daily on several television channels and he has many followers. Ramdev was in the thick of a controversy after Left party leader, Brinda Karat, alleged that ayurvedic medicines dispensed at his clinics contain human or animal remains. But, the Uttaranchal Government, where he has set up a hermitage and medical pharmacy, gave a clean chit to his medicines after laboratory tests.
