New Delhi: The fate of over four and a half lakh students across the country has been decided with the declaration of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII results today. The total pass percentage is 79.55 per cent. Even this time, girls outshine the boys. The girls make for 84.4 per cent and boys 79.93 per cent. At Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram, Anshu Mittal from Science stream and Anuradha Kumar from Commerce stream topped both with 96.8 per cent. Elated Anuradha said that she would be taking up Economics for further studies. Talking to the media, CBSE Chairman Ashok Ganguly applauded the newly implemented provision of extra fifteen minutes, about which he said has shown positive impact on both the performances of candidates as well as the result. According to Ganguly, girls collectively secured a pass percentage of 84.41 percent while the boys had a pass percentage of 75.93 percent, a gap of 8.5 percent in favour of the girls. The gap had increased from last year which was six percent.

Among the regions, Chennai earned the first position with a pass percentage of 91.46 percent; Ajmer came next followed by Chandigarh, Delhi, Allahabad and Guwahati. Government schools had something to cheer about with their pass percentage increasing to 78.05 percent from 76.44 percent last year up by 1.61 percent. More than 4.5 lakh students, including over 1.9 lakh girls, had appeared for the Class XII exams in March this year. A total of 4,54,045 students -- 2,63,286 boys and 1,90,759 girls -- had appeared for the Class XII examinations. The exams were conducted across the country as well as overseas in March. Nearly 6,500 overseas students had also appeared for the examinations.

The CBSE results are available on the website www.cbse.nic.in and www.cyberesult.nic.in. Apart from this, the results are available at respective schools and also accessible through SMS on mobile phones, Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) on phones as well. With the results also comes the stress. The results declaration will not bring cheer to all the students. To help the students at this critical juncture, free counselling centres are being run across the country. The tele-counselling on IVRS is available on the ten-digit number 1250-111-102 on the MTNL network in Delhi and Mumbai and the seven-digit number 1250-1-02. Few schools are also doing the work of counselling.
