Sonia returns to Lok Sabha
New
Delhi: Congress party president Sonia Gandhi returned
to the Lok Sabha on Monday after over fifty days since she
resigned from the House in the wake of the Office of Profit
controversy. Sonia took oath as Lok Sabha member in Hindi
amidst thumping of desks by the Congress MPs. Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Pranab Mukherjee and top
Cabinet Ministers were present in the House along with Rahul
Gandhi and other Members of Parliament. Priyanka Vadra and
her husband Robert Vadra were also present in the visitor
gallery. Sonia returned to the House after winning the bye-election
from Rai Bareilly constituency by a record margin of over
4.17 lakh votes. She had resigned from her Lok Sabha seat
on March 23, saying she did not come into public life to further
her personal interests but to "serve the Indian society and
secular values".
