process begins in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram:
The poll process for the Assembly elections in Kerala
starts today with the filing of nomination papers, for the
59 segments that will go to the first phase of polling on
April 22. In the first phase, six southern districts --
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthita, Alappuzha, Kottayam
and Idukki will be covered. According to the information
received from the office of the Chief Eelectoral Officer
in Thiruvananthapuram, the last date of filing nominations
is April 4. The scrutiny will be on the next day and the
last date for withdrawal is April 7. The second phase of
polling is scheduled on April 29. The phase will cover 66
segments spread over Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram,
Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. Kannur and Kasrgode districts
with 15 segments would go to polls on May 3 in the third
and last phase. Counting will take place on May 11. The
State is for the first time witnessing three-phase elections.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used in the States
for the polls. The Central para-military forces will be
deployed to maintain law and order and free and fair conduct
of polls.
