Imran blames work pressure for divorce

Islamabad: Pakistan's cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has said that his marriage with Jemima resulted in divorce because of his time constraints. He said that he was not able to spend much time with his former wife, since he was busy in his political engagements. "We had less time than a normal couple because of my work commitments. Cross-cultural marriage requires more effort," The Independent quoted Khan as saying in interview with The Times. He added: "When we realised Jemima couldn't live here any more, we divorced. At first we were concerned for our children. But it has worked out and I see them during their holidays. I consider them to be lucky to be brought up with two cultures." This was Imran's first interview after his recent house arrest. He was put under house arrest on one occasion to prevent him from demonstrating about the controversial Islamic cartoons, and earlier this month he was detained to stop him protesting about a visit by US President George Bush. Khan married Jemima in 1995 at Richmond register office. Despite being raised as a Catholic, she converted to Islam prior to the marriage and left the Chelsea set to live in Lahore with him as he launched his political career. Jemima is the daughter of the tycoon Sir James Goldsmith, and was more than 20 years younger to the former cricketer. After separating from Imran, she returned to London and the duo divorced nearly two years ago. After the legal separation, while Khan has maintained that he has no great desire to rush into another marriage, Jemima has since been dating Hollywood star Hugh Grant. Oxford-educated Khan (54) now lives in a seven-bedroom house Islamabad. Besides politics, his other priority is to complete the setting up of the cancer hospital in the memory of his late mother. He has toured to a large number of countries collecting donations for this endeavour.

James Bond to become more 'human'  (Go To Top)

London: The new James Bond, British actor Daniel Craig, has revealed that he wants to see his character in the upcoming 007 movie 'Casino Royale' make a few mistakes, so that he can seem more human. Craig said that he was looking forward to see his character go through a rough patch, for he believes that seeing Bond cope with the struggle and come out on top will make the movie all the more thrilling for the audiences. "I just wanted to see him make a few mistakes. I want to make the audience believe that it's all going to go wrong and then when it goes right it's much more exciting," the BBC quoted him, as saying. "I'm a Bond fan. If I go and see a Bond movie there are certain things I think should be in it. And they're there. We've got them in spades," he added.

Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton is set to meet Presley's ex-wife Priscilla to officially make the announcement at The King's former home. Although Graceland has been on America's National Register of Historic Places since 1991, the designation as a National Historic Landmark upgrades it to a status enjoyed by less than 2,500 historic sites in the US, including the White House, Pearl Harbor and the Alamo. The Sun Records studio in Memphis - the site of Presley's first recording sessions - was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2003.
