                    Dawood's
                    Mumbai complex demolished
                       Mumbai:
The Sara Sahara shopping complex allegedly owned by underworld
don Dawood Ibrahim was demolished today by the Brihanmumbai
Corporation. The demolition of the seven-storeyed structure
began this morning in the presence of a posse of 200 policemen.
It was earlier scheduled to take place last week, but was
deferred due to the non-availability of sufficient security
personnel to monitor the act. The Sara Sahara Shopping Complex,
which is located opposite the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Market,
is spread over 20,000 square metres. The police claim that
the complex has been illegally built on land owned by the
Central Public Works Department. This revelation came during
the tapping of a telephone conversation that Dawood was having
with his brother Iqbal Kaskar. The first order to demolish
the complex came in 2005, but was stayed on the orders of
a court after shopkeepers said they would lose their livelihood.
In May 2006, the Supreme Court ordered the structure to be
                    brought down.
