Harry Potter to ride Equus in the buff

Washington: 'Harry Potter' stars Daniel Radcliffe and his on-screen uncle Vernon aka Richard Griffiths are reportedly soon going to be seen on the London stage in a revival of Peter Shaffer's 'Equus'. According to Contactmusic, the on-screen persona of the young boy wizard will be making his West End debut in January 2007, when he takes on the role of a emotionally-troubled boy prone to nudity and the blinding of horses in the drama. And, Richard Griffiths, who recently picked up a Best actor Tony Award for his role in the play 'The History Boys' is also said to be in negotiations to appear in Equus as Radcliffe's psychiatrist, thus teaming up once again with his 'Potter' co- star. The original play won the Tony Award in 1975 for Best Play.

Brando's memorabilia up for grabs (Go To Top)

London: Legendary actor Marlon Brando's personalized script from the 1972 film 'The Godfather' and 100 other personal items belonging to the late actor are scheduled to go under the hammer in the US this year. Heritage Auction Galleries who will be auctioning off the possessions declared that Brando's harmonica and BAFTA award for the 1952 film Viva Zapata! are also included in the sale. The auction will be held on 6-7 October. "Brando was simply one of the greatest actors and he was so reclusive in life that his mystique will always be celebrated. These are such wild cards the prices could go through the roof." BBC quoted Doug Norwine, director of music and entertainment memorabilia at Heritage Auction Galleries as saying. The script being auctioned had been certified as genuine by Brando's assistant of 50 years, Alice Marchak, who has contributed most of the items. Norwine claims that the least expected price for the script was 35,000 dollars. "She [Marchak] said this was the script he would take into the trailer and practice his lines with. It is also signed," he said.

Natalie gives Anne Boylen an American twang

Washington: A leading British historian has slammed an upcoming Natalie Portman movie charting the life of 16th century British monarch King Henry VIII's wife and sister. The Other Boylen Girl is based on Phillipa Gregory's historical novel, with Scarlett Johansson and Portman playing two fiercely ambitious sisters, Mary and Ann Boleyn, who were rivals for the heart of the King, played by Eric Bana. But the Hollywood depiction of British history has been blasted by David Starkey, who fears the Transatlantic casting could render the movie unfaithful to real events and people. "It's another example of how all historical figures have to be portrayed on screen with American accents to appeal to an American audience," he was quoted by Contactmusic, as saying. "It's slightly strange, but then I suppose the Tudors are universal figures," he added.

Why only Jolie's biological kid waxed? (Go To Top)

New York: Madame Tussauds wax museum raised more than a few eyebrows this week after it unveiled the "Jolie-Pitt family" wax figures of Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Shiloh Nouvel Jolie Pitt, but left out the Jolie-Pitt family's adopted children, Maddox and Zahara. "It is ridiculous. It is as if the two adopted children aren't really a part of the family because they are not biological," an observer was quoted by the New York Post, as saying. Pitt's publicist didn't return calls. A rep for the museum said via fax, "No requests were received for figures of Maddox or Zahara." Meanwhile, the museum will donate 1 dollar to UNICEF from each "family photo" purchased by guests at the 42nd Street attraction who pose with the wax baby.

Hilary's Bust at Museum of Sex (Go To Top)

New York: The sculptor who offered to the world a life-size nude of singer Britney Spears giving birth on a bear- skin rug, has now added Senator Hilary Rodham Clinton to New York's Museum of Sex with what he considers her "Presidential Bust". Sculptor Daniel Edwards's new art piece that shows an armless- but-bountifully-bosomed Hillary atop a pedestal declaring her "The First Woman President of the United States of America" is all set to be unveiled at the museum on Aug. 9. Daniel Gluck, the museum's director, believes that the bust will stir a debate started by actress Sharon Stone that Senator Clinton would first have to "squelch" her sexuality before she ran for President. And though Edwards had a bit of a problem finding out what Clinton's breasts would look like, he found a way around that hitch by using beach photos of the former First Lady. "It's hard to find many images of her [breasts]. She usually covers herself up in a professional way. But there are beach photos of her," the New York Daily News quoted him, as saying. As for the wrinkles on Clinton's face, Edwards said that though he could have portrayed a more youthful Hilary, he chose to be 'honest' in his art. "I could roll back the clock on anybody. But it wouldn't be honest. (She has) a youthful spirit and a face matured by wisdom," he added.
