Miss Universe fainted due to gown wt (Go To Top)

     Washington: The new Miss Universe, Zuleyka Rivera, who was representing Puerto Rica, fainted soon after being crowned, as she was unable to bear the load of her dreadfully heavy gown, which weighed 14 kilograms. Rivera, after a barrage of photos and questions at a news conference following the July 23rd show, was overcome with heat while wearing a dress made entirely of metal chains. "The dress was 30 pounds (14 kilograms) - it's all chains, very, very, heavy. "I was very excited and the dress was very, heavy also. It was very hot there. I was sweating. I could feel the sweat in my skin..." Contactmusic quoted her, as saying. Although the gown caused her a wee bit of trouble, and also left huge scratches on her shoulder due to the chains digging into her skin, she insists that it still is her good luck charm. "It's beautiful and it's the dress that helped me to win!" she said.

Iran bans Da Vinci Code (Go To Top)

      Washington: The Iranian Government has decided to ban further publication of Dan Brown's controversial novel -- The Da Vinci Code -- in the wake of protests from the country's Christian community. According to contactmusic.com, the eight existing Persian- translated editions of the book will continue to be sold at book shops, but no further versions will be published. Hollywood director Ron Howard's cinematic adaptation of Brown's bestseller has also not been released in Iran. A spokesperson for the Iranian Culture Ministry said the ban is being put in place following the "request of three Christian clerics". There are approximately 100,000 Christians in Iran, a nation of 69 million Muslims.

Polish oil firm discovers Hitler 'air' ship (Go To Top)

      London: A Polish oil firm has claimed to have found the World War II aircraft carrier, the Graf Zeppelin, at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. Said to have been the creation of German dictator Adolf Hitler, the 33,500-ton Graf Zeppelin was launched in December 1938. According to The Sun, the aircraft carrier never saw action in the war as fighter aircraft were not made until 1944. After the war, the Russians used it for target practice and sank it. Divers now plan to bring the carrier up and showcase it at an exhibition.

'Casino Royale' set to get royal treatment (Go To Top)

     Washington: The much-awaited James Bond movie "Casino Royale" will have its premier at the 60th Royal Film Performance in London. The film, is set to receive its world premiere on 14th November at the Odeon Leicester Square theatre in London, said an announcement from Sony/MGM The speciality of the event is that, the screening is always attended by at least one member of the British royal family. Funds from the event will go to Britain's Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund charity, reports Contactmusic. "Casino Royale" is based on Ian Fleming's novel of the same name. Published in 1953, it was the first book in his James Bond series. The 21st Bond film, starring new Bond Daniel Craig is set for a November 17 release in the US and the UK.

    London: British soccer star David Beckham may soon move to the exclusive suburb of Bel Air in Los Angeles with his family, leading to rumours that he is seriously considering quitting European football and ending his football career with the Los Angeles-based Galaxy football club. According to contactmusic.com, Galaxy is reported to be interested in signing up Beckham, but says nothing formal has got off the ground as yet. It quoted spokesman Patrick Connelly as saying that Galaxy's general manager, Alexei Lalas, was very interested "in signing a world-class player of David Beckham's calibre if he wanted to play for us." Connelly further said that Beckham would not come cheap in spite of his very good relationship with Galaxy. Beckham hosts his California soccer camp, the David Beckham Academy, at the Galaxy's Home Depot Center Stadium. Meanwhile, the website TMZ.com claims that the Beckhams have found a house in Bel Air and are now on a furniture shopping trip.

    New York: Madame Tussauds wax museum raised more than a few eyebrows this week after it unveiled the "Jolie-Pitt family" wax figures of Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Shiloh Nouvel Jolie Pitt, but left out the Jolie-Pitt family's adopted children, Maddox and Zahara. "It is ridiculous. It is as if the two adopted children aren't really a part of the family because they are not biological," an observer was quoted by the New York Post, as saying. Pitt's publicist didn't return calls. A rep for the museum said via fax, "No requests were received for figures of Maddox or Zahara." Meanwhile, the museum will donate 1 dollar to UNICEF from each "family photo" purchased by guests at the 42nd Street attraction who pose with the wax baby.

Jessica is happy with her perky and cute ...

     Washington: Though she thinks that her breasts are "perky and cute", singer Jessica Simpson is not averse to having a boob job done if her twin assets start to sag after she gives birth. The singer, who recently celebrated her 26th birthday, revealed that she had not ruled out having her breasts surgically enhanced if they ever started to lose their shape once the stating "hanging to her waist" after she had a couple of kids. "If I have kids, and they're hanging to my waist, that's when I might start to think about having something done to them. Right now, they're perky and cute!" Contactmusic quoted her, as saying.

Natalie's drama slammed by Brit historian (Go To Top)

     Washington: A leading British historian has slammed an upcoming Natalie Portman movie charting the life of 16th century British monarch King Henry VIII's wife and sister. The Other Boylen Girl is based on Phillipa Gregory's historical novel, with Scarlett Johansson and Portman playing two fiercely ambitious sisters, Mary and Ann Boleyn, who were rivals for the heart of the King, played by Eric Bana. But the Hollywood depiction of British history has been blasted by David Starkey, who fears the Transatlantic casting could render the movie unfaithful to real events and people. "It's another example of how all historical figures have to be portrayed on screen with American accents to appeal to an American audience," he was quoted by Contactmusic, as saying. "It's slightly strange, but then I suppose the Tudors are universal figures," he added.

Making movies child's play for Allen (Go To Top)

     Washington: Ageing Hollywood director Woody Allen claims that making a movie is no big deal for him. The 70-year-old insists that he does not have to spend long, arduous weeks and months developing and producing it, as it just comes naturally to him. "Look, it takes a couple of months to write a script. This isn't Finnegan's Wake," Contactmusic quoted Allen as telling the Washington Post. "I pull it out of the typewriter; bring it in, three days later I have a budget. Then we do pre-production, which is about 10 weeks. I mean, I'm not doing a $100 million budget. I'm working with $15 million or so. I shoot for about 10 weeks maximum," he added. The movie mogul is currently promoting 'Scoop' which is the 37th film he has directed. The film starring Hugh Jackman and Scarlett Johansson is a romantic-comedy about a student journalist, who happens to get a scoop of a lifetime. Along the investigative trail, she finds magic, murder, mystery and love, with a British aristocrat.
