Dharam
                      Singh government collapsing
                        Bangalore:
The Dharam Singh led Congress and Janta Dal (S) coalition
government in Karnataka is on the verge of collapse following
a major setback caused due to a sudden revolt within JD(S)
on Wednesday evening. The ongoing political drama in Karnataka
took a U-turn when Janata Dal leader and former Prime Minister
HD Deve Gowda's son Kumaraswamy went to Raj Bhawan along
with 41 MLAs to meet Governor TN Chaturvedi and put his
stake to form the government. There he reportedly submitted
a letter containing signature of the rebel MLAs and withdrew
support from the Dharam Singh government. He also claimed
the support of another six independent MLAs in his favour.
Later he met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yadurappa.

                       Meanwhile,
the BJP has also extended support to form an alternative
government under Kumaraswamy. However, Deve Gowda, who continues
to maintain in public, his aversion to go with the BJP,
called a parallel meeting at his residence, where only a
handful of MLAs, including top leaders MP Prakash and PGR
Scindhia, turned up. Deve Gowda said all decision ought
to be taken on the Assembly floor. He further said that
MP Prakash was the leader of JD (S) and it was up to him
to take a final decision. Senior JD (S) leader, PGR Sindhia
however, termed Kumaraswamy letter as invalid. "It has no
sanctity," he said. He said that along with Deputy Chief
Minister MP Prakash, he would meet the Governor and urge
him not to act upon this letter. Prakash has also called
the letter invalid and without sanction, as any letter other
than one given by him as leader of the legislature party
would be rendered invalid. Meanwhile, Dharma Singh, who
earlier in the day dismissed speculations that his government
was facing an imminent collapse in the wake of reports of
differences between Congress Party and the Janata Dal (Secular)
led by former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, called for
an emergency meeting of the cabinet members late in the
                      evening on Wednesday.
