names squad for first Test against India
Lahore:
Pakistan has announced a 15-member squad for the first
Test against India, beginning on January 13 in Lahore. The
team will be led by Inzamam-ul-Haq. Pakistan have opted
for two spinners--veteran Arshan Khan and Danish Kaneria.
The only new face in the squad is Mohammed Asif. The team
is as follows: Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammed Yousuf, Younis Khan,
Shahid Afridi, Mohammed Sami, Shoaib Malik, Salman Butt,
Abdul Razzaq, Kamran Akmal, Arshad Khan, Danish Kaneria,
Imran Farhat, Mohammed Asif, Shoaib Akhtar, Naved-ul-Hasan.

Pakistan A tour match ends in draw
Lahore:
India's match with Pakistan A today ended in a draw. Wasim
Jaffer and Gautam Gambhir produced a fine opening stand
to take the match to a draw. The duo put on 81 in the first
innings, and 72 in 13 overs before the match was finally
called off one hour before the scheduled close. Jaffer made
35 and Gambhir 28. Earlier, Pakistan A closed their innings
on 358 for nine before tea in reply to India's first innings
of 414 for seven declared. Opener Imran Farhat who scored
107 in the Pakistan A innings was called up for the first
Test, reports The News. Pakistan's discarded batsman Faisal
Iqbal also scored a fine 87 before he was caught at mid-wicket
by Harbhajan Singh off paceman Ajit Agarkar. Team India's
ace bowler Irfan Pathan took three wickets for 82.
Sania crashes out of Sydney International
Sydney: India's Sania
Mirza crashed out in the first round of the Sydney International
in Australia on Monday. She lost in three sets to Slovakia's
Daniela Hantuchova. Sania, currently ranked 34th in the
World, went down to the 17th seed 6-4 2-6 6-2.
Delhi Government gearing up for 2010 Commonwealth Games

Delhi: Inaugurating a workshop on traffic and transportation
here today organised in connection with preparations for
the Commonwealth Games, 2010, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila
Dikshit divulged various plans her government has taken
to ensure the smooth conduct of the Games. "We have chalked
out plans for excellent roads, best kind of buses, public
transports including taxis, buses dedicated for the Games,
metros especially for Games and also private transport systems
which will make the city distinctive and attractive. Also
I am sending a team of engineers to Dubai to study the sanitary
system," Dikshit said. On making the event a grand success,
chairman of Commonwealth Games Organisation Committee Suresh
Kalmadi said, "The Commonwealth Games comes for the first
time to the country. All Commonwealth countries are looking
at India.We need to put our best for the success of the
Games."
Delhi CM stresses on proper traffic system for C'Wealth
Games
New Delhi: The Delhi State
government is gearing up for the 2010 Commonwealth Games
in a big way. To make the Games a grand success, Delhi Chief
Minister Sheila Dikshit is leaving no stone unturned and
has stressed upon the need for a proper traffic and transportation
system. Inaugurating a workshop on traffic and transportation
here today organised in connection with preparations for
the Games, Dikshit divulged various plans her government
has taken for the smooth conduct of the event. "We have
chalked out plans for excellent roads, the best kind of
buses, public transports including taxis, buses dedicated
for the Games, metros especially for Games and also private
transport systems which will make the city distinctive and
attractive. I am also sending a team of engineers to Dubai
to study the sanitary system there," she said. She urged
officials to adopt a fast-track decision making mechanism
to complete the infrastructure required for the Games. "The
officers concerned should put their mind together and shouldn't
resist changes to complete the work fast. Fast track movement
of decisions and implementations should be taken. If needed,
expertise from outside the country should be opted for,
we are open for that," she said.
