Natwar Singh axed from new Congress
Working Committee

by Sudhakar

New Delhi: The Congress party today reconstituted its Working Committee. Almost all the old faces were retained. The most notable exception being the exclusion of the former foreign minister Natwar Singh, making his isolation in the party almost complete. The another highlight of today's reconstitution of CWC has been the absence of new faces from the most eagerly waited Gen-Next of the Congress Party namely, Rahul Gandhi, Sachin Pilot, Jiten Prasada and others. Though Jyotiraaditya Scindia is part of the new CWC, he was already a general secretary of previous CWC. Ambika Soni will continue as media spokesperson of the party. Eyeing the crucial coming assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Ashok Gehlot has been named as general secretary for the Uttar Pradesh. He is seen having organizational ability. The state of Delhi has also fallen in the lap of Ashok Gehlot.

Some of the important members of the newly constituted CWC are -- Manmohan Singh, Pranab Mukherjee,Shivraj Patil, Ambika Soni, Ahmed Patel, Oscar Fernandes , Rajiv Shukla, Margaret Alva, Manish Tiwari, Mukul Wasnik, AK Anthony, Motilal Vohra, Digvijay Singh,V Narayan Swami and others. Natwar Singh's exclusion comes after he was named as non- contractual beneficiary in the controversial oil-for-food scam in Iraq. The present constitution of the CWC will be followed by the highly awaited Cabinet expansion at the centre. The Congress Working Committee is the executive committee of the Congress Party. It typically consists of fifteen members elected from the All India Congress Committee or the AICC. It is headed by the Working President.
