With Jayalalitha's support,
Amar Singh set to move
SC on phone- tapping issue
New
Delhi: Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh will now file
an appeal in the Supreme Court over the phone-tapping controversy.
He informed reporters of this move after meeting Tamil Nadu
chief minister Jayalalitha. Amar Singh also said that Jayalalitha
too was supportive of his stand. He demanded that "the probe
be given either to the UP Special Task Force or to the trio
of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Bihar Chief Ministers, since
his leader Mulayam Singh Yadav has no faith in CBI."
Thursday's
move comes close on the heels of CPI(M) extending support
to the Samajwadi Party leader terming the phone-tapping
issue as 'serious' and demanded a fool-proof enquiry into
the 'conspiracy'. However, CPI (M) leader Prakash Karat
had added that this was a result of the government's foreign
direct investment policy in the telecom sector which now
required a thorough introspection. With the Left and Jayalaitha's
support, Amar Singh is now looking forward to harnessing
support of more non-Congress leaders on this issue. The
Congress Party, however, has gone on the offensive against
Amar Singh, asking what kind of probe the SP leader would
like to have. Congress leader Ambika Soni further questioned
the SP leader on why he was not filing a FIR against Reliance
Infocomm where the alleged tapping took place. She also
demanded to know the contents of the tapped conversations.
Meanwhile, Bhupinder Singh a key accused arrested in this
connection was produced in court today. The owner of a detective
agency, Bhupinder was arrested last week.
