Sonia thanks Goans for support to Govt
Panaji:
First time after the ruling Congress party survived
a government fall in the tiny coastal Goa, Congress party
president Sonia Gandhi has thanked the people for ensuring
trust in the coalition government. Addressing a public rally
here Wednesday, Gandhi said that Goa couldn't be perceived
as a place for communal tension. The Congress-led coalition
scraped through a confidence vote in March last year to
retain power in the state, after weeks of haggling over
government formation with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Gandhi called upon the party workers and supporters to work
together to keep Goa free from any communal politics. "I
am extremely happy that the people of Goa have once again
placed their trust in a secular government. This means that
all of us must work together to ensure that never again
Goa will be subjected to communal politics, to a communal
government and communal administration," Gandhi said. Gandhi
is on a two-day visit to the state where she is expected
to meet a host of state party leaders and workers. Gandhi
also reiterated that the Congress party workers and its
leaders should avoid showcasing pomp and that it should
be more disciplined to work for the greater cause of the
people at large.
