14 injured in Ahmedabad railway station blast

Ahmedabad: A powerful explosion occurred in the wee hours today at the Ahmedabad Railway Station injuring fourteen people. The bomb exploded minutes after a train had passed Kalupur railway station and injured 14 people, Rakesh Mishra, commandant, railway protection force, told reporters. "The incident occurred between 1.40 am and 1.45 am (local time) only a few minutes after Ranakpur Express passed from a platform. We have ordered for a thorough check of the train at the next station. The investigation is on," said Mishra. The explosion tore open the roof of the platform and shattered glass on kiosks and offices, he said, adding that several stalls and structures were damaged in the blast. "I heard a blast 10 minutes after a train passed. I couldn't understand anything as it was dark and nothing was visible. I injured my head. I don't know what happened," said Dinesh, an injured. Following the explosion, arrivals and departures of trains here were suspended for a few hours before resuming at 4.30 a.m. (IST). A bomb disposal squad, personnel from the forensic science laboratory and fire brigade were rushed to the site, sources said.

No organisation has claimed the responsibility for the blast so far. The sources have clarified that the bomb was not a "crude device", adding that the nature of explosive would be known only after the blast material was inspected by the explosive experts. The injured have been shifted to VS Hospital in Ahmedabad and the condition of one of them is said to be serious. An alert has been sounded in the State and the police are maintaining a tight vigil in and around the city.

Yuvraj Singh's scintillating century and Mahendra Singh Dhoni's blitzkrieg fifty plus made the Herculean task of 286 posted by Pakistan, a proverbial cakewalk. Indian skipper, Rahul Dravid too slammed his 68th ODI fifty before he joined Gautam Gambhir in the dressing room. The duo shared a 69 runs partnership.
