TDP to support no-confidence against UPA
Lucknow:
The Telegu Desam Party (TDP) today criticized the United
Progressive Alliance (UPA) for its stand on opposing Iran's
controversial nuclear programme and said that it would favour
the proposed no-confidence motion by the Samajwadi Party
(SP) in Parliament. Joining the Opposition tirade against
the government on the issue, TDP leader and former Andhra
Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu speaking in line
with the Opposition said the UPA government had acted against
the spirit of non-alignment because of its stand at the
meeting of the global nuclear watchdog. Since India is a
secular nation, this move by the Centre would not prove
beneficial for the nation on its political front, Naidu
told reporters after a meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief
Minister and Samajwadi Party president, Mulayam Singh Yadav.
He also hinted that India might tarnish its image and relations
with other countries as a consequence of this move. Yadav
insisted on moving a no confidence motion against the UPA
government as he had promised the people at a joint rally
with the Left parties recently. Yadav also added that he
would try to gain support of other secular parties on this
issue. On being asked whether his party would withdraw support
from the Centre on the issue, Yadav said that any decision
on this matter would be taken at the national executive
meeting of the party.
