Keira's Oscar dress to feed 5000 kids (Go To Top)

London: British beauty Keira Knightley's Oscar dress is making sure that charity Oxfam will be able to help a significant number of people, after already attracting bids of more than 4,000 pounds on eBay. And, the Vera Wang ensemble is generating so much of interest that the auction site has extended the deadline until 5pm on Monday, in the hope that the gown will raise even more money. Though the auction had started with bids of just 99p, the amount soon increased with the top price 4,160 pounds. A spokes-woman for Oxfam said that the charity was hoping that the bids would climb even higher. "We hope it will go even higher over the next couple of days. We had no idea how much interest there would be and so we are very pleased. People should be aware that #4,000 would be enough money to feed 5,000 children in Tanzania, who are facing the worst food crisis they have known, for a whole month," The Independent quoted her, as saying. The charity is hoping to raise 20 million dollars to help 11 million people in drought-struck east Africa with its biggest appeal in its 60-year history.
