Cruise overwhelmed by Suri's birth (Go To Top)

Washington: Actor Tom Cruise has admitted that his new daughter's birth was all he'd ever dreamed it would be. In an interview to ABC network's show 20/20, the couch-jumping new dad not only described 'beautiful' daughter Suri's birth as 'spiritual' and 'powerful', but also said that the birth was everything they wanted it to be. "We were hugging each other like we always do. It was everything that we wanted it to be," E!Online quoted him, as saying on the show.

Cruise's baby-naming blunder (Go To Top)

New York: It seems that Tom Cruise has missed the mark when it comes to his baby's name. In a statement issued on the birth of their baby daughter, the couple had stated that 'Suri', as they have named her, means 'Princess' in Hebrew and 'Red Rose' in Persian. However, according to Prof. Hooshang Amirahmadi, director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Rutgers University, though the name means 'Red' in Persian, it certainly doesn't mean 'Red Rose'. "I think it is a mistake. In Farsi, it means red, like a fiery color, but there is no such a thing as a 'suri' that means 'red rose,' I can promise you that," the New York Daily News quoted him, as saying. And, to add another blow, the name also doesn't mean 'Princess' in Hebrew. "Nobody here has ever really heard of it," an announcer on Israel's Army Radio said. As for Hindi, the name comes from the Sanskrit word for "sun", and is not only an epithet for the Hindu god Krishna, but is more likely to be a boy's name than a girl's.

Longoria foils assassination bid on US Prez (Go To Top)

New York: 'Desperate Housewives' star Eva Longoria may not fit the description of a bodyguard, but it seems that that's not enough to stop her from saving the US President's life in her upcoming new movie 'The Sentinal'. Longoria, who plays a no-nonsense Secret Service agent stumbles onto a presidential assassination plot her first day on the job in the movie, which also stars Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland, said that she had taken up the movie as it had not only challenged her skills as an actress, but because it was as different from her 'Desperate Housewives' character as chalk and cheese. "I wanted something that was going to challenge me in a different way, and this political action-thriller was as opposite as you can get from the show. [My character] is ambitious and wants to move up in the world based on her talent and skills, not on her looks," the New York Daily News quoted her, as saying.

Bush suffering from delusions: Book (Go To Top)

London: Bushisms may have made US President George W Bush the butt of jokes all over the world, but there is far more serious allegation against him this time, and medical records to corroborate them, according to a leading psychiatrist. Professor Justin Frank of the George Washington University in Washington DC in his book 'Bush on the Couch' has said that Bush is a paranoid schizophrenic and is a danger to the world because he actually believes he is all-powerful and beyond law. Prof. Frank said Bush suffered from a condition known as megalomania, which is commonly found in schizophrenics and extensive study of his medical records and behaviour had hinted at the same. He said Bush's mental state was a result of his untreated alcoholism in his youth, his fundamentalist religious beliefs and his love-hate relationship with his former president father George Bush senior. This also drove Bush to invent and then destroy enemies to demonstrate his power, he said. "The defining characteristic of megalomania is the need, driven by internal fear of persecution, to pinpoint, then annihilate all persecutors perceived as outside threats," The Mirror quoted Prof. Frank as saying. The result was it had created an individual living in his own inner world largely "untroubled by external reality," he said. "Behind Bush's affable exterior operates a powerful but obscure delusional system that drives his behaviour," he added.

Gurinder Chadha confirms 'Dallas' remake (Go To Top)

London: 'Bend it like Beckham' director Gurinder Chadha has confirmed that she will be directing the big screen remake of the hit 80s TV soap 'Dallas'. With her new venture in hand, Chadha said that she would be walking the fine line in trying to hit the right note with contemporary audiences, as well as trying not to 'trample' with the memories of the hit TV show. "I've got to deliver something to them that's contemporary but at the same time doesn't trample on their nostalgic dreams," The BBC quoted her, as saying. Hollywood bigwigs like John Travolta, Shirley MacLaine, have already signed up for the movie, and Chadha is now trying to rope in Jennifer Lopez and Luke Wilson as well. 'Dallas' is scheduled for release in 2007.

Monroe death bed testimonies to be aired (Go To Top)

Washington: Never before heard testimonies of witnesses who gathered at movie icon Marilyn Monroe's death bed after she committed suicide, will soon be broadcast for the first time on an upcoming US TV news show. The show called '48 Hours Mystery', will be aired by CBS on 22nd April. Recorded in the early 1980s, the witness' interviews were a part of a review conducted by the Los Angeles County district attorney's office held to put to rest rumours that Monroe had been murdered. According to Contactmusic, bosses at CBS obtained the material, called 'The Marilyn Tapes', that also features an interview with Monroe's doctor, Hyman Engelberg, who arrived at her home before police on the night of her death, earlier this year, after filing a request under the California Public Records Act.
