Tom's hair is 'Da Vinci's biggest problem (Go To Top)

     London: The big screen adaptation of Dan Brown's book 'The Da Vinci Code' may have survived religious bans, but it may just lose the battle because of actor Tom Hanks' lank hairdo. A source said that the Hollywood star's receding hairline, kept that way to make him look more like the academic Robert Langdon, has completely missed the mark with test audiences, and has now become the talk of tinsel town. "Much of the talk is about the hair. It's too late to fix it," The Sun quoted the source, as saying. The 125 million pound film is set to hit theatre screens next month.

Schedule for 2007 Oscars announced (Go To Top)

     Washington: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the entire calendar of events for its 2007 Academy Awards. The 79th annual bash will take place on February 25 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, and will be broadcast live by ABC as usual. The Oscars ceremony is being scheduled for an earlier date to avoid competing with the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics. This year's awards were given out on March 5. Nomination ballots are to be mailed on Dec. 26 and the nominations polls will be closed by Jan. 13. The nominations will be announced on Jan. 23. Final ballots will be mailed by Jan. 31 and those ballots will be due back by Feb. 20, reports Zap2it.

Kate to star in Elton's 'Gnomeo and Juliet' (Go To Top)

     Washington: Singer Sir Elton John revealed that his new movie project 'Gnomeo and Juliet' has been given the go-ahead by Miramax Films, and will be starring 'Titanic' beauty Kate Winslet in the lead role. Elton John's CG-animated feature is a twist on William Shakespeare's classic play 'Romeo and Juliet', and is set in the world of garden gnomes. The 'Candle in the Wind' singer, who was earlier in talks with Disney studios, said that he was extremely excited about working with Miramax, as the studio was the 'perfect home' for his Gnomeo. "I am very excited about working with Miramax. Gnomeo is an edgy concept and Miramax is the perfect home to push the envelope in animation," Contactmusic quoted him, as stating.

Best Easter weekend debut (Go To Top)

     Washington: During its opening week in the theaters, the U.S. spoof film "Scary Movie 4" grabbed the top slot at the weekend box office, after grossing 41 million dollars. The film became the best Easter weekend debut ever, beating the 30.1-million-dollar opening of "Panic Room" in 2002. "We couldn't have asked for a more impressive opening for Scary Movie 4 and are so proud to have accomplished this only six months after our company launched. This exceptional opening proves that this franchise has tremendous staying power," E!Online quoted "Scary Movie 4" co-distributor, the Weinstein Co., as saying. 'Fox's 'Ice Age: The Meltdown' came down from first place to second with a box office of 20 million dollars, a drop of nearly 41 percent. In third place was 'The Benchwarmers' with 10 million dollars, followed by 'The Wild,' which came in fourth with 9.5 million dollars in its debut week. The fifth position was taken by 'Take the Lead' with 6.7 million dollars.

Becks dazzles Posh with 8m pound necklace

     London: England football captain David Beckham certainly believes in the saying 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend', for he is reportedly buying an 8 million pound Bulgari necklace for wife Victoria as a birthday gift. And, on top of the glittering diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald necklace, which happens to be a one-off copy, Beckham is also splashing out an additional 10,000 pounds to fly out a team of top chefs from London's trendy Japanese restaurant Nobu to cook for her in Spain, for her surprise Japanese-themed 32nd birthday party. A friend of Beckham said that Posh was sure to be thrilled by the party, for the Japanese restaurant happened to be her favourite. "Nobu's is Victoria's favourite so we know she will be thrilled," Newsoftheworld quoted the friend, as saying.

     London: Julia Roberts sharing a bubble bath with Richard Gere in the movie 'Pretty Woman' has been voted the 'Most Memorable Hotel Scene'. The bubble bath in 'Pretty Woman' beat out competition from the shower scene in 'Psycho', to top the poll conducted for Travelodge. According to the Daily Mail, the scene from the movie 'The Shining', where Danny Torrance pedals his tricycle along the hotel corridors and comes face to face with the murdered twins, came in at third place. The top five of the 'Ten Most Memorable Hotel Scenes' was rounded of by Eddie Murphy's reception desk rant in 'Beverly Hills Cop', where he pretended to be a journalist there to interview Michael Jackson, and Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore having sex on a 1 million dollar bed in 'Indecent Proposal', which came in fourth and fifth, respectively.

      London: Britain's Prince William is usually known for being the epitome of proper conduct. However, the young royal shocked guests at brother Harry's passing-out ball, when he and his pals engaged in drunken antics. A source said that guests were shocked at seeing William, and not Harry, behaving in 'Hooray Henry behaviour'. "The really surprising thing is it was Prince William behaving in this way, not his brother. Nobody else found them funny, but it was typical of their sort of Hooray Henry behaviour. These people are upper class twits who should know better," the Newsoftheworld quoted the source, as saying. And, because of their hell-raising behaviour, Wills and his pals were also booted out of the party. "Because of the behaviour of Wills and his friends, the prince was 'advised' to leave the party and go to bed," the source added. As for Prince Harry, the source said that he was 'good as gold'. "Prince Harry was as good as gold all night. He was a perfect officer and gentleman," the source said.

     London: New James Bond, British actor Daniel Craig has revealed that he needs to down a few drinks before he can manage to say some of his character's most famous phrases. Craig, who will be the first blonde Bond when 'Casino Royale' releases, admitted that though he needed a few drinks before he stood in front of the mirror and practised some of the most famous lines in the movie. "Have I practised, 'The name's Bond, James Bond' in the mirror? Well, maybe once or twice. But I would have been very drunk at the time," Femalefirst quoted him, as saying.

Cruise' seminars on Katie's childbirth (Go To Top)

     New York: When it comes to his baby's birth, actor Tom Cruise believes in going the extra mile, and he's even holding seminars to teach his family what fiancie Katie Holmes will go through during labour. The Mission Impossible III star said that the family had been holding seminars so that everybody in the family understands what Katie Holmes will be experiencing when she gives birth. "We've been doing seminars ... so that everybody in the family understands ... what Kate's going through and for Kate to understand it. We've also been studying what happens after the birth and how to take care of the baby," the New York Daily News quoted him, as telling GQ magazine. Cruise added that even his older kids, 13-year old Isabella, and 11-year old Connor, had been given responsibilities. "The kids will have different responsibilities and run in shifts. Everybody has been schooled," he added.

     London: 'Mission Impossible III' star Tom Cruise is apparently so determined that his baby should have the perfect entry into the world, that he has reportedly splashed 150,000 pounds to create a mini-hospital in his Beverly Hills mansion. Cruise is said to have not only had the delivery room fitted with a Fetal Monitor, Ultrasound Machine, Intravenous Pump, Delivery Kit and Infant Warmer System to monitor his baby, but has also hired three medics from his Scientology cult, a midwife, nurse and obstetrics expert to be on hand when fiancee Katie Holmes gives birth. According to a source, Cruise created the delivery room so as to provide Holmes with the right kind of environment for the 'silent birth', as advocated by Scientology. "Tom thinks his delivery room is the best way of providing a quiet environment. But if there are complications, she will be taken to hospital," The Sun quoted the source, as saying.

      London: Just when you thought Tom Cruise couldn't raise any eyebrows, he goes and does it again. This time by stating that he plans to eat the placenta after fiancee Katie Holmes gives birth. In an interview with GQ magazine, the 'Mission Impossible III' star, who is eagerly awaiting the birth of his first biological child, joked that he was thinking about eating the 'very nutritious' placenta. "I'm gonna eat the placenta, too. I thought that would be good. Very nutritious. I'm going to eat the cord and the placenta right there....OK, maybe I won't," Contactmusic quoted him, as telling GQ.
