Kate Moss in advanced yoga pose (Go To Top)

London: Artist Marc Quinn had always believed that supermodel Kate Moss is as mysterious as the Sphinx. And now, he has created a white-painted bronze statue of hers to show the world just that. The statue, which depicts Moss in an advanced yoga pose, will be on display in the Netherlands later this month. Quinn said that he had tried to capture Moss' mysterious quality that made her the 'spirit of the age'. "She is a contemporary version of the Sphinx. A mystery. There must be something about her that has clicked with the collective unconscious to make her so ubiquitous, so spirit of the age," Hello magazine quoted him, as saying.

Star Trek trilogy may soon be a reality (Go To Top)

Melbourne: Fans of 'Star Trek' might soon be getting a real treat, for Paramount Pictures is reportedly interested in making a trilogy that reveals the truth behind the cause of the Romulan war. Erik Jendresen, the writer of the script, said that a producer at Paramount had been championing the notion of making a 'Star Trek' trilogy. "There is a producer at Paramount who has been championing this and the notion that we have the opportunity to plug the gap with this trilogy. We have a chance here to fill in the canon, and to create a continuum ostensibly from the beginning from 'Enterprise' all the way out to the future," Moviehole.net quoted him, as telling SyFyPortal.com. "Three films, which all would deal with Kirk's progenitor, a man by the name of Tiberius Chase... We wanted to reveal the actual cause of [the Romulan] war, which was surprising to all involved at the time. We simply wanted to reveal the truth behind that startling incident," he added.

Britney is searching for a nanny (Go To Top)

London: Pop singer Britney Spears is hiring two medically-trained nannies after her baby cracked his skull. The singer has spent days talking to specialist agencies to find 24-hour care for six-month-old Sean Preston. He suffered a suspected fracture when his chair collapsed at Britney's Malibu home. The nanny caring for him woke Britney, 24, and a doctor was called. He found no problems. But six days later Britney rushed still-groggy Sean to hospital. "She doesn't want to risk anything happening to him again," a source close to the singer was quoted by The Sun,as saying. "She has been looking for somebody who can recognise the signs if he becomes ill again," she added. The insider added that Britney and hubby Kevin Federline, 28, were considering installing a sophisticated video surveillance system so they can monitor Sean while away working.

Cruise' definition of sex (Go To Top)

Washington: Hollywood hunk Tom Cruise has revealed that he enjoys a "spectacular" sex life with his pregnant fiancee Katie Holmes because they have such good communications skills. The Hollywood actor reveals his sex secrets in the May (06) issue of GQ magazine, declaring the physical act is a "by-product" of a successful pairing. "Sex is about the connection. Great sex is a by-product, for me, of a great relationship, where you have communication and it's an extension of that," Cruise was quoted by Contactmusic,as saying. "Where it's just free. And that's how it should be. It's spectacular. If you're not in good communication with your partner, it sucks. Scientology prevents Travolta's son's treatment?

New York: They have long been staunch supporters of Scientology, but medical experts are worrying that the religion is preventing star couple John Travolta and Kelly Preston from acknowledging that their 14-year old son is suffering from autism. Mark Ebner, in an article, claims that Scientology and its teachings are preventing the couple not only from publicly admitting that their son Jett is suffering from autism, but is also stopping them from providing him the adequate medical care required. "The couple cannot even publicly admit that their son is afflicted with a neurological disorder, lest - according to the incontrovertible doctrine of Scientology founder L Ron Hubbard - he be labeled a "degraded being" that brought his affliction onto himself.... Scientology will not even recognize the disability, let alone the myriad therapies for treating it," HollywoodInterrupted.com quoted him as stating. The couple has always insisted that Jett is suffering from Kawasaki Syndrome-related "environmental toxins," specifically carpet cleaning chemicals.

English is about to get its millionth word (Go To Top)

London: Most people would willingly acknowledge that English is the universal language, and now, it is about to reach a landmark of its own, by getting its millionth word this year. And telling the story of the language's expansion is Global Language Monitor (GLM), a San Diego-based linguistic consultancy, which created its own formula, called the Predictive Quantities Indicator (PQI), that measures the language as found in print, electronic media, and on television and radio, by using a base vocabulary drawn from major dictionaries that contain the historic core of the language. According to the Independent, the formula not only establishes a rate of increase in the creation of new words, but also tracks the import and absorption of foreign words into English. GLM surmised that as on 21 March 2006, there were about 988,968 words in the language, and that it would soon reach its one millionth mark.
