Manjunath murder strikes fear in IIM students
Ahmedabad:
The management students at the Indian Institute of Management
(IIM), Ahmedabad, are concerned about their security after
the murder of S Manjunath, an Indian Oil Corporation sales
manager, who was allegedly killed while trying to prevent
the owner of the petrol station from adulterating fuel in
his outlet. According to witnesses, Manjunath, a computer
engineer and an MBA from IIM, Lucknow, was shot dead by
the son of the owner of the Mittal Automobiles pump when
he went there to inspect fuel quality. The students at IIM
stressed that both the Government and the Institute should
ensure security for them at the time of placements. They
have to come always on the track of those anti- social elements,
said Vikas, a IIM student. Besides students, the faculty
members also have expressed their dissatisfaction with the
government and blamed politicians for the insecurity. "I
think it's very sad, very unfortunate that we have this
tragedy.
Earlier we had Satendra Dubey from IIT. If you talk to politicians,
they only talk of values. The fact is politicians are contributing
to the deterioration of the values. We can not rely on the
government because the Government is doing nothing. They
invariably are together with police and their time goes
in suppressing the information as much in protecting themselves,
So expecting from them to bring down the criminality in
the politics, I think it's a wild dream," said Singh, faculty
at IIM. S Manjunath, alumnus of IIM, was working as a quality
controller with Indian Oil Corporation. Manjunath was murdered
because he was determined to prevent a petrol pump owner
from adulterating the fuel in his outlet. His body was recovered
last Sunday. The 27-year-old had joined IOC on 23 July,
2003 as area sales officer in Lakhimpur.
