A superstitious practice leaves children
branded for life

Tehta: Dozens of parents in Bihar's Tehta town wait patiently under a scorching summer sun to get their children branded with the witch doctor's cross, in a superstition that it will cure them of all ailments. The heart-rending cries of toddlers wrench the air as the witch doctor marks crosses on kids' back with an abrasive paste in an apparent bid to protect him from the "evil." The bizarre practice leaves children prone to infection.
