Fashion show for exquisite India, Pak couture
New Delhi: Fashion knows no boundaries...and
who knows it better than the Delhites, who on Thursday witnessed
a unique fashion show showcasing the very best of Indian and
Pakistani creations. The fashion show, aptly titled "Jashn-e-Aman",
was a prelude to a bridal exhibition, which would kick off
in New Delhi later in the month. "Jashn-e-Aman means
celebration of peace, it is a peace movement started through
fashion. And fashion needs no borders," said
Mukesh Sharma, organiser of the fashion show. Models sashayed
down the ramp, clad in exquisite designer lehangas, shararas,
gararas and sarees, giving a sneak preview into the three-day
extragavaza, that would follow. Using exotic fabrics like
crepes, chiffons, silks, the collections were inspired from
Mughal era to present day trends. While Pakistani designers
played more with heavy embroidaries, Indian designers played
with crystals, swarovski and sequin work. Pakistani designers
were pretty excited about the show, as it
means a much larger market for them. "India is a much
larger country. That is one main advantage. Another main thing
is fashion industry in India is in boom, while in Pakistan
it is coming up. You people have your Fashion Week, Bridal
Asia, Bride and Groom (various fashion exhibitions) and all
these things
going on, while we have just come up," said Cyma Almakky,
a Pakistani designer who is on her maiden trip to India. For
the Indian designers who participated in the show, the event
provided them a platform to interact with their Pakistani
counterparts. India and Pakistan have stepped up people-to-
people contact involving various sections since they embarked
on a peace process in April last year.

Ritu brings back 60s magic of bollywood
Mumbai: Known as the golden period of Bollywood, the
60s Bollywood magic was revived by ace fashion designer Ritu
Kumar, known for her classic designs in her latest monsoon winter
collection presented in Mumbai. A classic case of Indo-Western
fusion, Ritu's prjt line was presented at a glittering fashion
show at Mumbai's Vie Lounge at Juhu. This year Ritu's prjt presented
a look for Label, that is really wholesome and yet bindaas,
wild ..inspired from the swinging
60s. The show choreographed by Asha Kocchar and Vidyun Singh,
marked
the second anniversary of Ritu's prjt brand. The collection
was both casual and party wear. This was followed by a denim
and leather collection, which consisted of heavy intricate embroidery
in daring new cuts. Finally in the last sequence, the theme
presented was ethnic complete with Gaghras, cholis, kurtis in
Indian fabrics. This was done in lyrca with interesting detailing
in a riot of colours and patterns ranging from the kutch Gujarat
to the Pushkar fairs all
interpreted innovatively. All in all Ritu has given a really
sumptuous and wild look in her latest collection that relived
the hot and happening look of the
60s. Surely Mumbai rains added a lot of luster to this collection.
