Mouth-watering and Exotic Dishes After
Freedom-Fighter Bhagat Singh

LUCKNOW: As patriotic fervour grips the

country after the release of Legend of Bhagat Singh and 23rd March-1931 Shaheed, chronicling the life of the legendary freedom-fighter, Bhagat Singh, a five star hotel in Lucknow brings its `Basanti Chola' theme right on to the dining table of one of its restaurants.

With interiors being done up with patriotic decorations, the entrance resembles the Lahore Jail where the freedom-fighter fasted for 55 days. The ambience inside the restaurant makes it a perfect setting for the food lovers to relish the cuisine.

The walls of the 44-seater eatery have been plastered with posters of the films on Bhagat Singh. Quotes by the freedom-fighter also occupy the pride of place on the walls. Three guillotines, similar to the one Bhagat Singh and his friends, Sukhbir and Rajgurum, died on, have been hung outside the restaurant.

Dishes like `Swaraj Chicken' (Self-Rule Chicken), `Sarfarosh Kabab' (Revolutionary Roasted Meat), `Hero Punjab Da' (Punjab's hero), among others, are likely to find several takers. `Parantha' is available here in the vibrant colours of the Indian tri-colour.

The waiters have been given the garb of prisoners of Lahore Jail. The expensive china is no longer used at `Naushijaan' - earthen plates and glasses, reminiscent of the mid-19th century - have taken over.

"We found a book in Urdu of the 1930s written by Dildar Ali Mashuq, a cook of Lahore. We found a few recipes in the book. We linked those recipes with the memories of Shaheed Bhagat Singh to start a food festival called the `Basanti Chola'. The main objective of the food festival is to evoke a spirit of patriotism and love for one's country in the minds of people", said Shameen Shaursi, managing director of the restaurant.

With different touches and packaging provided to the life of Bhagat Singh, which the people can even relate to the current crisis at the border, the restaurant is fetching good business and the festival is fast catching on.
