Charges against Monica Bedi in passport case Bhopal:
A Bhopal court today framed charges against former Bollywood starlet
and the companion of underworld don Abu Salem, Monica Bedi, in connection
with a forged passport case. Judicial Magistrate First Class Dinesh Kumar
Dangi charged Monica with fraud, forgery and under different sections
of the Passport Act. He set October 26 as the date for recording proof
in the case. Public Prosecutor Ramesh Motwani said that Monica would to
stay in Bhopal till the court proceedings were finished. The court will
also decide whether she would have to appear before court in person or
through video conferencing. Moncia has already been sentenced to five
years' imprison in another forged passport case. On October 12, Monica
was brought here from Hyderabad, where she is presently lodged in a jail.
Monica and Abu Salem were both extradited from Portugal on November 11,
2005. Salem is an accused of being involved in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts
case, in which 257 people were killed and several others were injured.
Monica and he fled the country soon after the blasts. A Hyderabad court
has sentenced three others, including a police inspector and a postman,
to five years imprisonment for helping Bedi get a passport based on false
information. A case was registered against Salem, his wife Samira Jumani
and Monica for having fake passports made at the regional passport office
by using names Danish Baig, Rubina Baig and Fauzia Osman respectively,
at Koh-i-Fiza Police Station in November 2001. |
