One arrested in Swedish national's rape, murder Kodaikanal:
Tamil Nadu police today achieved a major breakthrough by arresting
18-year-old Vijayaraj in connection with the murder of Swedish tourist
Aina Britt Mari. The dead body of the Swedish national Aina Britt
Mari, who was reported missing near Kodaikanal, was found on March
20, buried in a banana plantation close to the meditation centre where
she was attending a meditation programme since February 17. She was
alst seen on March 11. The arrested man, Vijayaraj, is the son of
a farm worker of the Zen Meditation Centre, where the Swedish tourist
was attending a programme. Police have also recovered her camera and
other belongings found buried in two different places. Sixty-year-old
Mari was a spinster and a painter by profession. She had planned to
leave for Kerala to the place of Matha Amirtanandamai. Although the
police have confirmed that this is a case of rape and murder, they
are awaiting a forensic examination of the remains. The police believe
that the clear cause of death will emerge only after the forensic
examination.
