Kaante
-
A
Experimental
Stunt
MUMBAI:
A
larger-than-life
hero
fighting
the
bad
guys,
melodrama,
and,
of
course,
lots
of
singing
and
dancing:
These
formulas
have
been
an
integral
part
of
Indian
cinema
for
a
long
time.
As
the
film-makers
grow
more
adventurous,
there
are
new
trends
emerging.
And
one
such
presentation
is
Kaante
by
renowned
director
Sanjay
Gupta
which
lacks
any
candy
floss
romance.
From
a
routine
mushy
stuff
and
regular
ollywood
potboilers,
Kaante
is
a
story
of
six
gangsters
who
plan
a
heist
in
a
bank.
The
movie
is
adpated
from
Quentin
Tarantino's
critically
acclaimed
Hollywood
movie,
Reservoir
Dogs.
It
is
also
shot
extensively
in
the
US
and
has
the
entire
crew
from
Hollywood.
"
There
were
lots
of
problems
while
shooting
for
the
film
in
LA
as
we
were
making
a
Hindi
film
with
American
technicians.There
was
big
language
problem.
And
then
there
was
funding
problem,
then
came
this
Pritish
Nandy
Communications
and
Rama
Raoji
cause
we
alone
could
not
have
handled
the
film
all
alone",
said
Sanjay
Gupta.
The
six
gangsters
in
the
movie
are
Amitabh
Bachchan,
Sanjay
Dutt,
Sunil
Shetty,
Kumar
Gaurav,
Singer
Lucky
Ali
and
Director
Mahesh
Manjrekar.
Kaante
is
second
movie
in
line
for
singer
Lucky
Ali,
who
made
his
debut
on
silver
screen
with
Tanuja
Chandra's
Sur.
Speaking
to
ANI
in
an
interview,
Lucky
Ali,
who
is
extremely
capricious
about
his
career
choices,
said
that
in
both
films
he
has
played
a
passion-oriented
character.
"Both
the
characters
were
grey
shades.
Sur
has
a
jealous
teacher
and
in
Kaante
a
gangster.
Though
they
are
in
many
ways,
very
different
roles,
both
the
characters
are
essentially
about
passion,"
says
Lucky
Ali,
differentiating
both
his
roles.
The
Indian
film
industry
is
the
largest
in
the
world
-
churning
out
nearly
800
films
a
year.
But
experimental
films
like
this
one
has
been
few
and
far
between.
Going
by
the
promos
and
songs
currently
on
air,
Kaante
looks
to
be
a
deadly
flick.
With
all
men
looking
smashing
and
with
excellent
choreography,
lighting
and
sets,
the
movie,
slated
to
released
by
July
end,
promises
to
be
a
definite
crowd-puller.

Road
-
Hoping
for
the
Best
MUMBAI:
Renowned
director
Ram
Gopal
Verma
comes
up
with
his
latest
venture
Road
starring
Antara
Malli
and
Vivek
Oberoi,
who
won
critical
acclaim
for
their
performances
in
the
film,
Company.
Like
the
name
suggests,
Road
is
shot
in
it's
entirety
on
a
road
and
a
major
part
of
it
in
a
car.
The
actors
are
confident
that
the
film
will
be
well-received
despite
its
off-beat
theme.
Malli
plays
a
traditional
girl
who
hits
upon
a
journey
with
Vivek
Oberoi.
While
on
the
road
they
are
befriended
by
a
complete
stranger,
Manoj
Bajpai.
A
tale
of
three
travellers
and
their
conversation,
the
film
promises
to
be
different
from
the
rest
of
Bollywood
fare.
Whether
this
agrees
with
the
audience
remains
to
be
seen.

Shilpa's
Dance
and
a
Thrilling
Plot
MUMBAI:
Junoon
is
the
latest
flick
by
Sanjay
Khanna
which
stars
Shilpa
Shetty
and
Chandrachur
Singh.
Claimed
to
be
a
psychological
thriller,
the
movie
tells
the
story
of
Veer,
a
TV
reporter
who
goes
through
different
facets
of
life
after
his
son
gets
kidnapped
by
an
unknown
person.
Shilpa
Shetty,
Bollywood's
most
sought-after
actress,
performs
a
dance
sequence
with
a
fur
turban
and
heavy
accessories.
The
song
has
Sufi
touch
in
it.
"This
is
not
an
action-thriller,
it's
a
psychological,
political
thriller
which
has
some
action
here
or
there,
but
we
have
concentrated
more
on
emotions."
said
Shilpa."It
is
not
a
run-of-the-miller
kind
song
you
find
here.
It
has
a
sufiana
touch
to
it
and
I
think
it's
very
lyrical.We
have
concentrated
on
a
different
look
in
terms
of
a
background
and
in
terms
of
sets
we
have
put
up
and
the
costume."
Produced
under
the
banner
of
Pride
Entertainment,
Junoon
also
stars
Chandrachur
Singh
and
Sonali
Kulkarni
in
lead
roles.
Shilpa
is
playing
Singh's
love
interest.
Speaking
to
ANI,
Chandrachur
Singh,
the
young
actor,
who
candidly
discussed
his
career
graph
and
his
upcoming
releases,
said
that
he
is
playing
a
role
of
a
TV
reporter-cum-
newscaster
of
a
news
channel
whose
stories
are
so
accurate
that
he
seems
to
know
the
voice
of
truth.
"The
film
is
about
...
it's
a
psycholocial
thriller.
It
is
about
three
main
individuals
who
are
basically
going
through
traumas
in
their
life
they
have
to
face,
two
different
but
equally
shocking
situation
and
how
they
get
through
that
and
how
they
reslove
that,"
said
Chandrachur
Singh.
Sanjay
Khanna
had
earlier
made
Anth,
an
action
film,
which
was
successful,
and
then
a
delayed
Ittefaq,
which
bombed
at
the
box
office.
He
now
hopes
to
change
his
luck
with
Junoon,
and
is
leaving
no
stone
unturned.
With
films
flopping
left,
right
and
centre
at
the
box-office,
what
ripples
will
Sanjay
Khanna's
Junoon
make
with
the
audiences,
let's
wait
and
watch.
