Jet Airways Extends Scheme

          NEW DELHI: Jet Airways has extended the validity of its advance purchase scheme by another six months. It will be valid till March 31, 2003. The scheme is for those who buy tickets 21 days in advance of the date of journey. The scheme will not be available during the peak season between December 16, 2002 and January 15, 2003.

IA to Invite Bids to Acquire Airbus (Go To Top)

          NEW DELHI: Indian Airlines which has planned to acquire 43 Airbus aircraft will call for financial bids for the purpose within the next two months, official sources said.

          The entire process of inviting bid, under the fleet expansion plan, may take about 45 days but the airlines has targeted at least 60 days.

          Meanwhile, the Air India Board last week decided to acquire 17 aircraft on lease to start operation on a few new routes.

Bihar Told to Ensure Safety at Airport (Go To Top)

          NEW DELHI: The Central Government has told theBiihar Government that the Patna airport will be closed down if it does not take adequate steps to make the runway safe.

          The warning follows recommendations of an expert committee set up after Indian Airlines and Air Sahara complained to the Civil Aviation Ministry that they cannot fly to and from Patna as the runway is short and there are obstacles llike trees around.

          The panel recommended acquisition of land for extending the runway and cutting down of nearby trees in the botanical garden, but the state Government raised objections.

Sahara's Steal a Seat  (Go To Top)

          NEW DELHI: Air Sahara has launched a new auction scheme in which passengers can bid for air tickets on any of its 55 daily flights for Re 1, although it is unlikely that one would get a ticket for Re 1. Of a total of 7,500 seats, 500 to 1000 seats will be on offer. The auction will be through indiatimes.com and travel agents.

          The scheme, Steal a Seat, was launched on August 26. Auction opens 25 days prior to date of journey.
