Pradesh, Aviation Minister Shahnawaz Hussain has
announced a major expansion and development plan
for Kullu-Manali airport.
This
is aimed at not only making the city well-connected
with the rest of the country, but also making it
easier for the tourists to visit the State. For
decades tourism has been the top exchange-earner
for the State.
Hussain
said, "There is a big rush of tourists to the State
throughout the year, especially during the peak
seasons. But at the moment no big planes can land
here ... only the small planes of Indian Airlines
can come. For this reason, many tourists are not
able to come. If we extend the runway, which is
now 5,300 metres, the 50-seater jets can also land."
He said the extended runway is likely to be in operation
by the end of this year.
