Air
Deccan direct Delhi-Kullu flight
Bangalore:
Bangalore-based low cost carrier Air Deccan has announced direct regular
flights from Delhi to Kullu and back, starting October 17. The carrier
will be deploying a 48 seater ATR 42-500 aircraft on this route. Capt.
GR Gopinath, Managing Director Air Deccan said by starting regular flight
services on this sector, the carrier was helping in boosting the area's
tourism potential. "For years together, the Kullu - Manali region has
been attracting tourists and mountaineers from across the globe and last
year Kullu - Manali saw almost one million tourist footprints. There is
just one airline operating to Kullu at present and the other options available
are either by road or by train which take as long as 14 hours and are
not very safe considering the hilly terrain of the region. Poor air connectivity
has been a major hurdle to the promotion of tourism in the area. "Low
cost connectivity to Kullu will play a vital role in enhancing tourism
and will provide a quick and affordable travel option to domestic and
international tourists. The Airport Authorities over the last few years
have been involved in development of various airports in Himachal Pradesh
including the Bhuntar Airport at Kullu. A lot of infrastructural development
has happened at these airports especially widening of airstrips enabling
us to fly a turbo-prop aircraft to Kullu," he said. The pricing mechanism
for fare is the same as in all other sectors in which Air Deccan operates.
The earlier one books, the lesser one pays. The fare starts at Rs 74 (plus
taxes) and moves through various price points going up to the last day
fare as against a fixed fare of Rs 4150 (plus taxes), which is offered
by the only other airliner operating on this route.
