Stranded Air India plane reaches Delhi

New Delhi: Air India flight 112 reached Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Sunday afternoon after it was stranded for more than two days at the London Heathrow Airport following a snag in its engine. While 96 of the passengers had been able to reach the city on Saturday evening by a special aircraft via Ahmedabad, the remaining 338 of them finally landed amidst their anxious relatives, who had gathered to welcome them in the airport. The New York-London-Delhi-Mumbai flight had developed a snag in its engine after it was hit by a bird on Thursday and was grounded in the Heathrow airport for the last forty-eight hours. Its engine was completely replaced before it flew to Delhi . The arriving passengers narrated the ordeal through which they had to undergo while they were stranded. They said that the Air India officials did not provide them with basic amenities and they had to spend long hours at the terminal. Air India officials, on the other hand, said that they had accommodated the passengers in hotels near the airport and had provided them with all basic amenities.
