Three
UNLF militants arrested at IGI airport
New
Delhi: Three militants belonging to the United National Liberation
Front (UNLF) have been arrested as they were boarding a flight to Kathmandu
from the Indira Gandhi International Airport here. Jayant Kumar, Ghanshyam
and Shyam Kumar were arrested on the night of October 2, said police officials.
A pen drive containing details of army and para military forces deployment
in the North-East were recovered from their possession. It also contained
details of the outfit's various sources of funding. Sources said the arrests
were made in a joint operation of the intelligence bureau, immigration
officers and the Delhi Police. Meanwhile, security has been stepped up
at 13 airports, including Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow and Patna after intelligence
inputs warned that terrorists may attempt to hijack an aircraft. A high
alert has been sounded at airports, all falling in northern parts of the
country, as the inputs has suggested that the hijacking target could be
a plane either coming from Kathmandu or going there, sources said here.
Intelligence input suggested that Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba
could be involved in this. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF),
which has been tasked with the responsibility of guarding all airports
in the country, has deployed additional personnel after the Bureau of
Civil Aviation Security sounded the paramilitary force about the hijacking
danger. Security has been beefed up at airports at Varanasi, Gaya, Guwahati,
Amritsar, Bagdogra, Chandigarh, Shimla, Bhuntar, Delhi, Kolkata, Patna
and Lucknow.
