US
to help India to develop infrastructure
New
Delhi: The Union Civil Aviation Ministry on Monday signed a Memorandum
of Agreement (MoA) with the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) of United
States. According to the agreement, the FAA would provide assistance to
the Indian civil aviation sector in developing and modernizing its infrastructure
in the managerial, operational and technical areas. Civil Aviation Ministry
Joint Secretary R K Singh and FAA Administrator Marion Blakey signed the
agreement in the presence of Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel. The
Union Cabinet had approved the signing of this agreement on May 3. The
assistance includes providing technical and managerial expertise in developing,
improving and operation of civil aviation infrastructure, standards, procedures,
policies, training and equipment. The FAA will also provide resources,
logistical support and equipment for air navigation facilities and training
to the civil aviation personnel. According to the agreement, the US will
also provide assistance in a Helicopter Operational Safety initiative,
airport certification and inspection and calibration of civil aviation
equipment and air navigation facility. All assistance under the agreement
will be on the basis of reimbursement of costs. The USA has signed similar
agreements with more than 100 countries. The Memorandum of Agreement is
an Umbrella Agreement and would have many agreements as and when signed
with different agencies like the Directorate General of Civil Aviation,
the Airports Authority of India and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. etc.
