Revised air services agreement with Australia New
Delhi: The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for signing the revised
Air Services Agreement between India and Australia. Agreed between the
two countries during the bilateral civil aviation consultations on September
8-9, 2004 in New Delhi, the salient features envisage the rights of the
two countries to designate as many airlines as required and mount the
agreed number of services between them as decided from time to time. The
designated airlines of each side shall be entitled to operate on the agreed
routes, which will be reviewed from time to time. Either party may at
any time give notice in writing to the other of its decision to terminate
this agreement, said a release. Under the treaty, the agreement shall
terminate after one year of the date of receipt of notice by the other
party, unless the notice is withdrawn by mutual consent of the parties
before the end of this period. Officials said the revised agreement signifies
an important landmark in the civil aviation relations between India and
Australia and has the potential to spur greater trade, investment, tourism
and cultural exchange between the two countries.
