More Air Traffic Controllers New
Delhi: Airports Authority of India (AAI) will induct more persons
in the Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) category. The AAI is in the process
for filling up 88 more posts of Junior Executive (ATC), Civil Aviation
Minister Praful Patel said in Lok Sabha during the ongoing Parliamentary
Session here today. The AAI has a sanctioned strength of 1753 persons
in all categories of the Air Traffic Controllers (ATC Discipline), Patel
said, adding however, the actual persons in position are 1313. To overcome
the shortage of Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs), the AAI has recently
selected 88 candidates for the post of Junior Executive (ATC) and have
deputed them for training to the Civil Aviation Training Centre (CABC),
Allahabad, Patel said. The first batch started training in April 2005
and the last batch has started training in January 2006, he added. The
ATCOs after completing their statutory training will undergo the job training
before being inducted for regular independent operations, Patel said.
The Government has stated that in spite of constraints in filling up vacancies
there is no compromise on aviation safety, Patel clarified. The ATC services
in the country are provided as per International Civil Aviation Organization
(ICAO) norms and guidelines, Patel said.
