GoAir
launches Mumbai-Srinagar services
Srinagar:
GoAir today launched its first direct Mumbai-Srinagar flight service
to become the first private airline company to connect Srinagar with Mumbai.
Announcing the launch here, J Wadia, Managing Director, GoAir said, "We
have started two flights a day from Mumbai. We intend to increase the
frequencies of flights moving forward and to promote state and tourism
board of Jammu and Kashmir." Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir,
Muzaffar Hussain Beigh who was present during the occasion said that it
would give a boost to the state tourism industry. "While Kashmir is fairly
connected now and we are going to see more connections in future. I must
say that we want connectivity for Ladakh. Ladakh is a place which has
its own unique beauty and adventure. We expect that the tourism potential
of Jammu, which is remained unexplored, will be developed in next couple
of years," Beigh added. Currently, nine flights take off from the Srinagar
airport everyday for Delhi and Jammu. There has been a stupendous response
to the ticket sales for the Mumbai-Srinagar direct flight service of GoAir
as tickets of this GoAir flights to Srinagar for next two months have
already been sold out. With the onset of the summer tourist season of
Srinagar the tourists flow to Srinagar is bound to increase. GoAir, a
low-cost carrier and is making an effort to offer airline seats at marginally
higher than the train prices to all cities in India, in a phased manner.
It took off on November 4, 2005 with scheduled services to Goa, Ahmedabad
and Coimbatore from Mumbai. The airline operates three A320 aircraft with
a single class, 180-seat configuration. Last year 11 lakh tourists had
visited the Valley and this year the number is expected to double.
