Air Deccan flights from Agartala to Kolkata, Guwahati

Bangalore: Air Deccan, India's first low cost carrier, has launched direct flights from Agartala to Kolkata and Guwahati. Dinesh Nandan Sahay, the Governor of Tripura, flagged off the first flight from Agartala to Kolkata on November 19. "Connectivity is the key for equitable economic development for any nation and in a geographically vast country like India where there are places where evens trains dont operate; it becomes all the more important to have low cost air connectivity," said Air Deccan Chairman and Managing Director, Captain Gopinath. "Air Deccan connects Kolkata with all the metros, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and other cities in the North-East and we will continue to add more flights in this region since there is a huge demand for low cost connectivity in these sectors.

Air Deccan emphasizes the need for providing easy accessibility at low costs in the smaller towns and interiors of the country, which is where the untapped wealth of the country lies, he added. "Air connectivity to Agartala has been in great demand and was essential since it is not connected by trains as well. We are expanding our network in the North-East very aggressively and this would be our first foray into Tripura. With the new Agartala flights being added today, we will have 35 daily flights serving North-East India," he said. Since its inception in August 2003, Air Deccan has carried over 2.5 million passengers, covering 39 destinations. It has close to 170 flights a day, with a fleet size of 05 Airbus A 320s (180 seater) and 13 ATR 42 (48 seater) and 2 ATR 72's (72 seater). Air Deccan is a Business unit of Deccan Aviation, Indias Largest Charter Company in the private sector.
