Jodhpur
plays host to a vintage car rally
Jodhpur:
Around 70 vintage cars rolled out at a rally here
on Sunday. The Jodhpur Heritage Car Club hosted the rally.
An array of classic and vintage cars were first lined
up at the famed Umed Bhawan Palace of the erstwhile Maharaja
(ruler) of Jodhpur from where they were flagged off to
Khimsar, a village on the outskirts of the city. The cars
will head back to Jodhpur in the evening and would assemble
at Mehrangarh Fort, where a prize distribution ceremony
is scheduled to be held. The owners of the vintage cars
came forth to participate with a sense of pride. "The
Jodhpur Heritage Car Club has done this event primarily
to create awareness of our vintage cars collection. It
is the restoration work, which is being done and the kind
of support, which we are getting from the exporters. The
heritage association as well as the Tourism Department
who has been most pro-active to create this awareness
internationally," said Shatrujai Singh, a member, Jodhpur
Heritage Car Club. He said that to maintain these cars,
one need not be educated, but has to be a very skilled
person and have a historical interest in cars. The participants
saw it as a chance for fun on a bright sunny Sunday. The
spectators responded with enthusiasm to the event. "It's
wonderful to see all these old cars come back into their
former glory," said Cathliene Alu, an Italian. Apart from
Jodhpur , Jaipur regularly holds such car rallies in Rajasthan.
At present, there are around 6000 vintage cars in India.
