Lahaul Spiti cut off by snow in Himachal Pradesh

Lahaul Spiti (HP): People in Lahaul Spiti in Himachal Pradesh are a harried lot these days, as snowfall has added to their woes by cutting them off from the rest of the state. Continuous snowfall in the region has led to blockade of roads in Lahaul Spiti, making the helicopter service the only mode of transport. Dip in temperature causes water to freeze in the region. Food supplies are also affected as road blockades disrupt the supplies of essential commodities including fresh vegetables. "People face a lot of problems during winters. It snows heavily, and the water also freezes. If somebody falls ill, then they cannot be treated as there is no doctor here," said Rama Devi, a villager. The authorities are trying hard to restore the road connectivity to the region and have started removing snow from the roads. Meanwhile, the temperature remains at sub-zero level in upper reaches of Himachal Pradesh.
