Tourists
flock to north Indian hill stations following snowfall

(J-K)/Nainital/ New Delhi: The higher reaches of northern
India have received heavy snowfall in recent days, attracting
tourists from the plains in large numbers. It has brought
a smile on the faces of tourists who are enjoying the
weather after the region was hit by a dry spell. "It is
a very nice feeling, I am enjoying," said Raveena, a tourist.
Patnitop, a hill resort in Jammu and Kashmir, also experienced
heavy snowfall on Wednesday. Hundreds of tourists thronged
the resort, which is located at about 7,000 feet above
sea level in the Pirpanjal Ranges of the Himalayas. People
visiting Vaishno Devi also flocked to Patnitop to enjoy
the snowfall. Many revelers were left awestruck by the
picturesque scene. Some said they were seeing snow for
the first time in their lives. "The weather is really
nice, I am witnessing snowfall for the first time, looks
as if rivers of milk are flowing all around," said Kalpana,
a tourist. The snow and rain has led to a dip in temperatures
in neighbouring states, including New Delhi . A thick
fog enveloped the capital city on Wednesday and Thursday.
Traffic was moving at a slow pace on Thursday and many
said they arrived late at work. Several flights were either
delayed or diverted to other cities owing to poor visibility.
"My flight has got delayed because of fog," said Balbir
Singh , a passenger. According to reports, around 20 domestic
and international flights were affected.
