Snowfall in Shimla, Mussoorie, Kashmir
Shimla:
A spell of fresh snowfall has cheered both locals
and tourists in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Shimla on Wednesday
presented a picturesque look with houses, roads, trees
and plants all covered by a blanket of white snow. For
tourists, the snow turned out to be a surprise package.
"I had come here yesterday, but there was nothing. And
today, there is snow all around. We are really enjoying
this weather. I've been coming here for so many years,
but this is probably the first time I saw it snowing,"
said Vinit, a tourist from Punjab. People could be seen
throwing snow balls at each other on city roads. For many,
the sight of a snow-covered town brought forth their poetic
expertise as they compared Shimla with paradise. "It seems
like paradise. I'm really enjoying myself. You only get
to hear about paradise but today it seems as if there
is a paradise on earth, it is in Shimla," said Subhashis
Dey, another tourist. The snowfall is also anticipated
to boost the state's tourism industry.
Heavy snowfall in Mussoorie delights tourists
Mussoorie:
Tourists thronged here to see snow falling. For some,
it was a lifetime experience. "Today, we feel as if we
saw the real Mussoorie which we wanted to see for so many
years. After many years, we are feeling so good, enjoying
the snowfall, the snacks and sightseeing," said Charanjeet
Singh, a tourist from Ludhiana . "We came to Mussoorie
two days ago to see snow. Last time, we came here in December,
but were unlucky. It wasn't snowing here, but today we
are feeling good," said Amitesh Chanda, another tourist.
Tourists were seen playing with snowballs at the sites
such as Laltibba and Gunhill. They were also seen in nearby
Dhanaulti area. The fresh snowfall has caused a dip in
temperatures.
Intense
cold sweeps Kashmir after fresh spell of snowfall
Srinagar:
Kashmir reeled under intense cold wave on Tuesday
after many parts in the region received fresh snowfall.
The upper reaches of the state received fresh snowfall
while the plains received rainfall, dipping the mercury
levels across the region. People said that it has been
unusually cold this time after the snowfall. "This time,it
is very cold. People have started using kangris again.
Heaters are out. People are covering themselves with warm
clothes. It is very cold here," said Rizvi Haider, a resident.
The meteorological department said the sudden change in
weather conditions is due to the western disturbance.
More snowfall and rains have been predicted by the Meteorological
Department for next three-four days. "Due to some western
disturbances, coming from the Arabian sea towards Jammu
and Kashmir and adjoining areas, the weather condition
will remain bad in the state for next three-four days,"
said Sonam Lotus, Director, Meteorological Centre, Srinagar.
Upper reaches of the state like Kupwara, Bandipore, Baramulla,
Gulmarg and many other regions received heavy snowfall,
dipping the day and night temperatures in the State. Kargil
and Leh districts of the state reeled under extreme cold
conditions as the temperature in these towns dipped to
minus 18.6 and minus 11.8 degree Celsius respectively.
