Mamata Banerjee to inaugurate 'Only Ladies' EMU train services

     New Delhi: Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate the first ever 'Only Ladies' EMU train services in Northern Railway between Delhi-Palwal at New Delhi station today. In the same function, Union Minister and Congress leader Vilasrao Deshmukh will also inaugurate another 'Only Ladies' EMU train services by remote, which will run from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus to Panvel in Mumbai suburban in Central Railway. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Ministers of State for Railways, K.H. Muniyappa and E. Ahamed will also present on the ocassion. In view of the increasing number of working women in the country, Banerjee has announced the introduction of 'Only Ladies' EMU train services in Delhi , Chennai and Kolkata suburban on the pattern of Mumbai suburban during her presentation of Railway Budget 2009-10 in the Parliament. For the convenience of women passengers during office hours, she has decided to run 'Only Ladies' EMU train services in Northern and Central Railway from August 5 and in Southern Railway from August 8. In Northern Railway, one pair of 'Only Ladies' EMU train will run between New Delhi and Palwal. In Central Railway, one pair of 'Only Ladies' EMU train will run between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Mumbai) and Panvel. In Southern Railway, this service will be introduced from August 8 with three pairs of 'Only Ladies' EMU trains which will run between Tambaram and Chennai Beach ; Arakkonam and Chennai beach; and Chennai Beach and Velachery.
