River
patrolling to keep a watch on Taj Mahal Agra:
The police have decided to conduct river patrolling around the Taj Mahal to prevent
any security threat to the memorial. The police have therefore acquired two motorboats
to conduct patrolling in Yamuna river, flowing by the Taj, to keep any threat
emanating from the river side at bay. But due to low level of water in the river
these days, they are forced to make use of the conventional rowing boats to patrol
the area surrounding the Taj. But, once the water level rises, these newly acquired
motor boats will be used to conduct speedy patrolling in the Yamuna. "We have
acquired two motorboats as threat was anticipated from water. These boats would
be used for patrolling. The level of water in the river is low these days. So,
we are making use of pickets only to keep watch on the monument. As soon as the
water level rises in the river, we will start using these boats," said Prem Prakash,
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Agra . Security has become a major concern
for authorities after the Mumbai attacks and also in view of the ongoing polls
in the country. Taj Mahal has always been equipped with ample security measures
to protect the monument. The river patrolling is another attempt by the security
agencies to cover the monument and protect it from any threat.
