Baby hippo cheers up Patna zoo

     Patna: A hippopotamus at Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park here has given birth to a female calf, raising total count of Hippopotamus in the zoo to 12. The news has spread a wave of happiness among the zoo employees. It will attract lot of visitors, especially women and children to the zoo. "With this, the total count of hippopotamus in the zoo rises to 12, out of which 7 are female and 5 male. The birth of the calf has brought immense happiness to the zoo authorities and we are very proud of it", said Subhash Verma, director, Patna zoo. According to zoo officials, both mother and child are in a healthy condition. This is the sixth baby of the mother hippopotamus called 'Hartali'. She has given birth to maximum baby hippos in the zoo. Hartali was herself born at the zoo premises in 1988. The baby calf is not named yet. But, zoo officials say they will soon decide the name.
