by Juhan Samuel

Kochi (Kerala): India's only annual boat show--India International Boat Show (IIBS), showcasing the best of marine equipment and leisure boating industry has commenced in Kochi. Organised by the Kerala Tourism, termed as South Asia's definitive boat show, IIBS 2005 is the perfect opportunity to do business, network and develop business relationships. At least 22 international exhibitors, including the world's leading trade body, the British Marine Federation, are participating in the fourth edition of the India International Boat Show (IIBS). It concludes on Sunday (October 2). A novel expo of various marine products and its services is also organised as part of the event. The three-day show, which aims to turn India into a major centre for the boat industry, kicked off with a spectacular yacht regatta. Performed by the nine participating teams, it comprised of three to four sailors in each boat and was organised by the Kerala Yacht Association. Raju George, Vice Commodore, Kerala Yacht Association said there was desperate need to popularise yachting in the country. "People were not aware about what is yachting and people were sceptical whether this can take place. In Asian countries, our possession is very low. We have less popularity in our country and it is only patronized by few who are rich and can afford to be in a club like this". Showcasing the best in boats, yachts, inflatable, marine navigation and telecommunication equipment, marine engines and other products related to recreational boating and the marine equipment industry, the show was the perfect opportunity for business deals and to develop new business relationships. Launched in 2002, the IIBS, providing the platform for the entire marine and boating industry from South Asia to meet and conduct business, had been drawing increasing international participation.
